Fact number one
We use pure water to clean exterior surfaces. Pure water is ordinary water that has been purified to such an extent that it works as a cleaning agent.

Water in its natural state is impure; Pure water strives to get back to that natural state and so if it comes into contact with a dirty surface it will absorb the dirt thus returning to its natural state and leaving the surface clean.

As Pure water has no dissolved solids within it when left on an already clean surface it will dry completely clear.

So when using Pure water for cleaning windows/exterior surfaces, a brush is used initially to agitate the dirt which is then rinsed off with Pure water which absorbs and rinses the residue to leave a crystal clear streak free finish.
